Just missed the cut: Mint Chocolate Chip, Confetti Cake, Wild Watermelon. I want to try the Wild Berry Bloom flavor, but haven't seen it. I'm not sure what the "wild" part of the name signifies, but there is a boldness to the taste. Frosted strawberry is one of my least favorite options, but un-frosted strawberry is near the top. Cherry Turnover: You might not be aware of it, but there is a movement out there for unfrosted cherry pop-tarts to return. There are so many, it appears the company can't even catch up. Remember when there were only three flavors of Doritos, one of which was unflavored corn? One noticeable explosion has come to Pop-Tarts (and you can see still the old days with generic brands, which typically come in just strawberry, cherry, blueberry) which now come in 29 flavors. Have there been major developments in chemistry to occasion this change? Or was the potential always there, only the producers lacked the impetus? The good news is that the manufactured food industry keeps churning out flavors. To this end, the Megaboom might seem like a redundancy in the UE lineup (and it sort of is), but I'll gladly take more of what has worked so well in the past. Sure, it can pipe the tunes louder and for longer, but I don't know too many people who would consider those reasons convincing enough to part ways with big bills over. Perhaps the Megaboom's greatest (and only) flaw is that it doesn't do anything different than the UE Boom 2, which is more affordable by a great margin. It may not have waterproofing or the long-lasting battery of the Megaboom, but its audio chops can run a lap around it. Walking around the speaker, it's much harder than it used to be (but still possible) to find a "dead spot" in the sound delivery. The 360-degree audio effect, which we found to be improved in the Boom 2 over its original, was also noticeably better here. Every genre of music that we lobbed at it sounds vibrant and expansive. The Megaboom is a great addition to UE’s family of wireless speakers. Strings and woodwind instruments rise and fall as the tune flows along. Sooth your senses with a few excerpts from Swan Lake and the UE’s happy to slow the pace, and let its excellent dynamics take over. Playing a spot of classical music proves the Megaboom has a more subtle, delicate side too. ![]() Music is well balanced, even if the very high-end isn’t the ultimate in refinement. It’s an enthusiastic listen, bristling with life. There’s solidity and precision through the bass, the midrange and treble. Even with this great expanse of sound, the UE still manages to keep its composure and focus. The Megaboom’s ability to disperse sound really stands out too, and you’re able to enjoy a decent spread from various positions. The track’s bassline sounds weighty and taut (but never megaboomy, happily) and the speaker never skips a beat.
